What's So Bad About Saying "Merry Christmas"?

"Merry Christmas." What is the harm in saying that? None. If we are talking about freedom of speech and acceptance, then it should stand for this traditional greeting. Some retailers have required that their employees (also called "associates", for whatever reason) do not say "Merry Christmas", but "Happy Holidays" during November/December. Yet, these same retailers are capitalizing on the *Christmas* holiday. That isn't Kwanzaa wrapping paper you're seeing for sale on their shelves, nor Hannukah bushes for sale out on the sidewalk. What a double standard to make money on Christmas, but not allow employees to say "Merry Christmas". As for the rest of us, who aren't employed by such a retailer, we can say whatever we want. No one is restricting your freedom to say "Merry Christmas", or "thank you", or "I don't celebrate", or "Christmas is based on a pagan holiday", or "Merry Christmas back at ya", or "Blessed Solstice", or "Happy Hannukah", or, or.... That is where our freedom of speech and worship are guaranteed in this country. If you are being restricted in some way, then fight it.
